Transitioning

I am still on this journey to going natural. I have been growing the relaxer out of my hair for almost 6 months. It has been very tempting to get a relaxer but I've been holding out! I look forward to seeing my real hair texture and using only natural hair products instead of harsh chemicals to tame my hair. So lately I've been trying new styles so I won't get fed up bored with my hair. I get bored easily so I cut my hair in the beginning of the year for a new look. Last week I went to the salon and left with a head full of curls! This was a great protective style. I didn't have to do my hair every morning or use any heat. Using a lot of heat during this transitioning process can cause hair breakage. So each night I just put on my satin bonnet and the next morning I used my fingers to comb through my curls. To change up the style I pinned my curls back with a few pieces hanging in the front, and used a colorful scarf as a headband. Accessories and bright make-up can enhance your look as well. Don't be afraid to try new hair styles, add color, chop a few inches, wear it curly or straight, etc. Whatever you decide, have fun with it! Take a look at my recent hair changes.

the unknown.

The planner in me always wants to know every detail, and that's not always possible. But there's also joy and growth in not knowing. Each day I learn something new about myself, the good and the bad, and then I decide what's next and what I want to change. I try not to fear the unknown, which is the hard part. Fear will take over your life to the point where you and the people around you won't even be able to recognize you anymore. Let it go! Easier said than done, but i'm working on it. Write down each fear on a leaf and let them float away down a stream. Let them go for good.

"I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me. I can even ask for help! Not feeling that I have to know everything, and that’s where the growth comes in, in the not knowing." -Tracee Ellis Ross

in my dreams...

I am in LOVE with this Celine luggage tote bag. Any sponsors?? Seriously. I have been eyeing this bag for a while. Not many people know about it, but I see it's popping up more and more on celebrity's arms. I can't afford it, but it's nice to look at. I just love the design and its versatility. It's the perfect tote for all of my junk, and it can be carried all year round. And trust me with this price tag, I would be carrying it ALL year round and sleeping with it as well. So until then, i'll just dream.

I just called to say...

Do you think social media and cell phones have enhanced communication? Most definitely if you want your message sent out to the world instantly. They are great tools for marketing your business, getting world news out, and connecting to friends and family on the other side of the world. I value the significance of the Internet and all new technologies because it has improved almost every aspect of our lives. But what about more personal communication? Nowadays almost all communication is done through email, text messages, and online chat applications. I guess this is the world we live in now, huh? Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone and all of its cool features, but I rarely use it for talking. I miss those days. I have a few friends and family that still value our hour-long phone conversations. Sometimes it would be nice to get a phone call with good news over the phone. It's just something about hearing the excitement in that person's voice while they are telling you such good news and the fact that they thought enough of you to call and tell you first. But I only enjoy phone calls when there's something to talk about. I can do without the awkward silence and breathing. Great phone or face-to-face conversations are mentally stimulating. Maybe people are too lazy now to dial numbers or too comfortable sitting behind their computers creating their alter egos. Or maybe i'm just old-fashioned. But as expected, we must adapt to our environment.

This post reminds me of one of my favorite comedy movies, Mo'Money. Johnny and his brother Seymour sit and wait for an employer to call him about a job. Johnny gave the employer the number to a payphone so they sit and wait and try to keep people from using it so they won't miss the call. You have to watch Damon and Marlon Wayans in this hilarious movie! Telephones have evolved so much. Now most people don't even own a house phone. We just use our cell phones for everything, and don't let us forget it somewhere, our world would end.

cut, copy, and paste

Yesterday I had my first teaching experience! I was nervous at first but those feelings quickly went away once I got setup in the classroom. I taught a small group of students basic computer skills. Some students have never used a computer and there were some that just wanted to brush up on their computer skills for better job opportunities. Despite some technical difficulty I enjoyed working with my eager students. I can't wait to see their progress at the end of the program. No matter your age, you can do anything to broaden your horizons.

i'll come running

So today I decided to run. This is a pretty big deal for me since I'm probably the laziest fat girl stuck in a skinny girl's body you'll ever run across. I don't know what came over me but I walked outside and ran to the gym. I ran the treadmill until my legs hurt, but after my cardio workout I felt good. I felt like something had been lifted off of my shoulders. I kept telling myself I was going to workout and I finally pushed myself to start. This is just the beginning. I'm not trying to lose weight, but I do want to be healthy and relieve some stress. A little physical activity can definitely help me achieve those goals and boost my energy. I've been surprising myself lately and motivating myself to go above and beyond my goals. The real challenge is to keep going, so i'll try running again next week.

one foot

I'll put one foot in front of the other one
I don't need a new love, a new life
Just a better place to die. -Fun

I don't know where I'll be when I'm dead, but it has to be better than my current location. I have a lot more living and loving to do, Lord willing!

But I hope my last destination on this planet is somewhere warm and near the ocean which is somewhat of an oxymoron since I have a fear of drowning. However, the beach is still my favorite place. I hope those special people will all be in the same place with me sharing my last laughs and eating good food. Can't leave on an empty stomach :)
